The classification of isocyanates as carcinogen has led to a re-thinking in some industries to substitute polyurethanes by silicones. In particular, the versatility of silicone properties has favored the use of silicones in electrical installations. Here, the use of silicone gels in cable sleeves is emphasized. Based on our experience in silicone applications in the electronics industry (such as e.g. IGBTs or sensors) we transferred our knowledge to various modifications for the electrical industry.
The presentation will give an overview of the advantages and disadvantages of silicones as well as their use in different applications in the electrical and electronics industry.
