ELANTAS Electrical Insulation

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use my resin if the flash point is lower than my part temperature?

Yes. Flash point is defined as the lowest temperature at which vapor above a volatile liquid will quickly ignite when the liquid is heated under standard conditions.

Three distinct factors come into play when examining flash point. They are:

  • A source of ignition must be available i.e. a spark or flame
  • The concentration of oxygen must be within a specific range
  • The concentration of volatile vapors must be within specific range

Since the concentration of oxygen is difficult to control eliminating sources of ignition and maintaining adequate ventilation around volatile liquids will eliminate any potential for flash.
