POLYURETHANE

The general composition of a polyurethane wire enamel consists of a polyisocyanate that has been reacted (blocked) with a phenol a polyester polyol, a catalyst, solvents, and additives. At elevated temperatures in the wire oven deblocking occuures and the blocking agent (phenol) is evaporated. The free isocyanate groups then form urethane bonds with the free OH-groups of the polyester polyol. The decomposition of urethane groups at high temperature is the reason for the solderability of polyurethane wire enamels.
